Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were guest correspondent for Showtime at the most anticipated fight of the decade – Mayweather vs Pacquiao. Tell us more about this memorable experience?
Ms. Lindsay McCormick: Surreal is the best way to describe it. In a matter of 48 hours I went from interviewing Floyd Mayweather (who followed a massive marching band into the arena) at the Grand Arrivals, to watching the weigh-ins next to Evander Holyfield and Sugar Shane Mosley. If that doesn’t give someone chills, I don’t know what will.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your inspiration or motivation behind your success in the world of sports journalism?
Ms. Lindsay McCormick: Any woman who has been a trailblazer in their profession inspires me. Also, my mom who told me at a very young age that I could be whatever I wanted to be in life if I worked hard at it. She has always supported me and is there with helpful and honest advice before and after every broadcast. Also, my girlfriends in the sports broadcasting world, who face the same challenges I do. It’s nice to be able to share experiences and get advice from women I respect tremendously.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your experience of working and writing for Esquire in the column entitled “Monday Morning Cheerleader with Lindsay McCormick”?
Ms. Lindsay McCormick: It was one of my favorite experiences. First of all, Hearst Magazines and the editors at Esquire are incredible to work with. They understand having a vision and giving you the right amount of freedom to express yourself through writing. With my column, working with the different women each week and getting to tie that into the weekly events of the NFL was a unique twist and concept. I loved how intelligent they were and loved getting to give them a platform to showcase that to sports fans and readers.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you believe that the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?
Ms. Lindsay McCormick: I 100 percent do. If you believe in God, you believe that He ultimately has control over everything. There have been so many instances in my life and career specifically where something didn’t happen that I thought would have been great or was a job that I really wanted…and then at the perfect time, all of these crazy events occurred to give me what I really needed. We all have been put on earth for a reason and that’s to love others and to live out our calling. Sports broadcasting and hosting is my calling.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What do you wish to say about Womenfitness.net and do you have any other message for our readers?
Ms. Lindsay McCormick: I think it’s empowering what you guys are doing for females. Giving us a place where we can get our fitness and health advice and make each other stronger for our every day lives.
