Lauryn Eagle is an exceptionally talented and accomplished Australian professional boxer and water skiing champion. She also won Miss Teen International, along with Most Photogenic, Miss Congeniality and Best Silhouette in 2005. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You learnt to water skiing at the age of four and started racing when you were nine years old, your father Peter who won the Australian title eleven times and sister Sarah placed second at the 2007 World Championships were your mentors. You reached the pinnacle of success by winning World Championships in 2005 in the F2 class. In 2006, you also won the Australian Speed Championships (U/19) and the Australian Marathon Champs (U/19). What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle:
I attribute my Water Skiing success down to two main factors … My families incredible support and direction AND to my personal will to be the best at whatever I attempt. My friends call me fearless but in reality I love a challenge and am a very determined woman.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle:
I absolutely thrive on a regular planned exercise routine. Average 2 -3 hours a day depending on my work commitments. I love running. Nothing beats putting on my music and pounding the roads and beaches of this beautiful city we all live in. I can sometimes run up to 10km a day. I also do lots of core strengthening with weight assisted crunches, lengthy sustained leg raises and a punishing medicine ball workout. Skipping is a specialty and a great cardio and rhythm workout for me. My routine becomes way more intense leading into a fight with regular sparring and shoulder strengthening together with hundreds of squats and lunges. For a change I sometime do my whole workout in a swimming pool. The added water resistance really builds your strength.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle:
I really love my food. With the crazy hours I work at the Eagle Fitness Gym at Taren Point it is important that I keep a regular healthy eating regime. Lots of steamed vegetables and organic salads (mushrooms are my favourite) with at least a good portion of grilled fish, lean steak or the occasional pasta. Thank goodness my mum is a wonderful cook AND she knows exactly what I need.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding water skiing girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of water skiing ?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle:
Water skiing was my life since I was very young. My dad really instilled in me the hard work, the dedication and the mental toughness you need to succeed in that sport. When you are open water skiing and racing sometimes 100m behind the boat you have to be very well disciplined in your mind to fight the negative thoughts, the physical fatigue and the constant awareness of the changing conditions around you. My Dad really knew how to bring the best out in me. If I had any advice for young water skiers …. You have to be dedicated to the Sport but more importantly ….. Trust your preparation and your team and conquer you fears …. It can be a very dangerous sport but it is exhilarating at the same time.
