Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a bikini perfect physique?
Ms. Kendall Lou Schmidt: My basic fitness routine is simple: be active everyday and have fun. I personally believe that working out should not be a chore, it should be something you look forward to. Part of keeping it fun is variety. By continuing to revise my workouts my mind never gets bored, and my body doesn’t plateau.
Group fitness is my first love. I have so much fun teaching and taking classes it doesn’t even seem like I’m working out. I’m fortunate to get the majority of my cardiovascular exercise while teaching classes. For strength training I lift weights 4 or 5 days a week, either at home or at the gym, varying my routine every few weeks to keep it fresh. Again, my routine is constantly changing, but to give you an idea, here is what I did last week:
Sunday: Walk/jog intervals outside with my dog for 1 hr
Monday: 5pm taught Spinning Class, 6pm Weight Training for my Shoulders, 7pm taught Vinyasa Yoga
Tuesday: 10am taught Bootcamp Class, 430pm Weight Training for my Chest and Triceps, 545pm Taught Spinning Class
Wednesday: 9am taught Spinning Class, 10am Weight Training for Legs and Core, 8pm Walked the dog 45 min
Thursday: 10am Weight Training for my Back and Biceps, 11am taught Power Yoga, 530pm taught Zumba
Friday: 730am taught Silver Sneakers Class, 845am taught Pilates Class, 10am taught Bootcamp Class.
Saturday: Did a total body resistance training circuit in my home gym with high intensity cardio intervals.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?
Ms. Kendall Lou Schmidt: As a person who suffers with Celiac disease, I have no choice but to follow a gluten free diet. I have a lot of fun experimenting in the kitchen, creating delicious food that is nutritionally dense, low in calories and gluten free.
Other than that my diet is pretty simple. Every meal I eat protein with some type of carbohydrate or healthy fat. I eat frequently, balance my macronutrients, avoid refined sugar and stay away from highly processed foods. I also try drink at least a gallon of not a water a day.
I set my daily calorie allowance based on my activity that day and current goals. For example, if I’m teaching several classes one day I allow myself to eat a little more than days I am less active. If I am trying to lean out for a competition or photoshoot my calorie allowance is only about 300 calories lower than usually. I have learned from experience that if I restrict any more than that I get grumpy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your motivation to take a multi-faceted personality of a fitness model, personal trainer, media personality, nutritional expert, national bikini competitor, public speaker, writer and an athlete?
Ms. Kendall Lou Schmidt: Being able to encourage and inspire others is more meaningful than I can even begin to describe. The information that is out there is confusing, and more often than not people with even the best intentions end up frustrated and discouraged because they are misinformed or misguided. Putting people on the proper path and giving them a strong foundation in fitness and wellness sets them up for a lifetime of success. I enjoy helping people understand their body and find different ways to challenge it safely and effectively.
I love to share my passion for fitness and wellness, and hope that in someway I am able to change the lives of all the people I come in touch with. It could be as simple as giving them a great recipe off my social media or as complex as completely redoing their workout routine. I want to be a resource people can trust for good advice and inspiration. It is truly inspiring to witness the amazing goals my clients accomplish. I can not begin to express the joy I feel hearing that a client noticed something in their everyday life was easier, better, or less intimidating than before. Exercise can improve independence and quality of life, prevent or alleviate injury, correct postural deviations, improve self esteem and confidence, relieve anxiety…. the list is endless! I feel truly blessed to be able to help people overcome obstacles in their life and reach new heights.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Kendall Lou Schmidt: Healthy skin and hair start from within. Proper nutrition is the first and most important step. If you are lacking a healthy diet it will reflect in the way you look.
I keep my personal beauty regimen simple. Less is more. Over cleansing your face or hair can cause it to dry out, produce more oil and look greasy. Believe me, as a teenager I learned this the hard way! My daily routine is washing my face morning and night using a Clarisonic and a gentle cleanser, then applying moisturizer.
I constantly get asked what I do to make my hair so long, thick and healthy. The truth is I do NOTHING. Literally, I do nothing to it. I don’t color it, don’t blow dry it, and I don’t curl it or straighten it more than 2 or 3 times a month. Each day I wash with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, then just let it do its thing.
