Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar had a candid interview with Kendal Lee Schuler, one of the leading Australian models to talk about her workout, diet, hair & skin care, beauty secrets and success story.
Namita Nayyar:
A healthy morning ritual that you follow every single day for glowing skin and stay healthy?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– It’s not just for glowing skin but every morning I will have a spot of apple cider vinegar and a dash of hot water. I find that it just wakes me up and gets my metabolism going. In the scheme of skin, I use ROTIONALE (the brand). I have super sensitive skin which is prone to pretty bad dermatitis especially in the winter months so I find their products gentle enough but are also active on my skin.
Namita Nayyar:
You began modeling professionally when you were 15 years old after dropping out of high school. What motivated you to join the modeling industry? Share input about your first project.
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– I was always that show off kid in the family. There’s always one, right? I would make up dances and put together silly outfits to show my family and strut down the hallway at home practicing my ‘catwalk’ in front of a mirror. When America’s Next Top Model aired on Australian TV I was completely hooked and knew that it was definitely something I wanted to do. And now 12 years on, here I am. Still modelling, loving it, and now also a mother my three year old son.

Share the best part of your job you enjoy as a model?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– I love that not having to go to the same desk and office with the same people every day. I get to be creative in this job and no two days are the same. I love variety.
Namita Nayyar:
Which exercises are integral parts of your workout routine? Five must-do mornings stretches? Any sport you like?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– I train with my amazing trainer, Esther Hesse so every day is different for me workout wise. But I will say anything to do with the battle ropes and core related are my favourite.
Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a day in your busy life? How do you balance your routine as a model and a mother?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– One of the good things about being a model is that I don’t work every day so that gives me a lot of time with my son. On a busy day I would wake up and go straight to training while my son sleeps in and my boyfriend looks after my son for me.
When I come home I get breakfast ready for myself and Ryka (my son) then we play for a bit. Some days I have castings and things that will drag my son along to. I also am started to do a bit of content creating at the moment so I will also do a bit of that too. By the end of the day I’m usually stinging for a glass of wine which I will have while I cook dinner for the boys (boyfriend and son). It’s all about balance right!?
Namita Nayyar:
Your meal before and after a workout? The secret to maintaining a slim torso. Three myths that need to be busted?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– I usually don’t eat before my trainer as I work out first thing in the morning but a quick banana is always great. After training I will usually go home and cook steamed kale and eggs drizzled with sesame oil, tiny bit of soy sauce and chilli flakes.
Namita Nayyar:
Your Favourite Meal of the day would be? Top three healthy snack options? One diet secret you would like to share?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
-DINNER is my favourite meal and cooks and eats. I love being in the kitchen and dinner is where I get the most creative as I’m quite the creature of habit when it comes to breakfast and lunch. I find most of the time I cook Asian inspired meals as they are fresh, colourful, relatively healthy and just bloody delicious.
During the day, it might sound a little cliché but I LOVE celery. I could eat it all day long and especially if it’s dipped in hummus. YUM
Namita Nayyar:
You shared “Our little man Ryka Lee Pedrana touched down in spectacular style. The brave little guy couldn’t wait for hospital and jumped straight into dad’s arms, on the bathroom floor at home!” Share five tips for pregnant mothers to have smooth childbirth?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– Ah yes, my birth story is quite the tale. It was both terrifying and AMAZING and I hope I get to do it again someday. The best advice I was ever given was from one of my best friends who has 3 kids. She told me to try and enjoy the pain of labour, so I did. As crazy as it sounds, letting your mind and body relax always you to enjoy the experience. I remember getting excited for a contraction as it was one less one I had to go through to get to see my son for the first every time. And my goodness did he come quickly.
I will also touch on that my mother had two really smooth and quick births with myself and my sister so it can definitely be up to genetic. If you are expecting just make sure you are exercising regularly, even if it’s just going for a walk and keep your mind positive towards the experience.

Kendal Lee Schuler:
Women fitness isn’t just physical. It’s a holistic approach. Encompassing disciplines spanning both mind and physical wellbeing. Both are necessary to sustain your week which involves work and play. Removing one from the equation can have noticeable impacts, stress for example can hinder your performance at work but also while training or engaging in activities with your friends and family. Balance and variety are the things that allows for consistency.
Namita Nayyar:
Share your present workout routine during a lockdown?
Kendal Lee Schuler:
– In lockdown I was incredibly lucky as I was still able to work out with my trainer in her home at a safe distance.
Namita Nayyar:
Five tips to prepare for a swimwear photo shoot.
Kendal Lee Schuler:
- Drink lots of water the day before
- Have a light dinner
- Go for a nice walk the morning of
- Try not to exercise the day of the shoot as it will swell your muscles
- Try a yoga class morning of to stretch out and elongate your body.
