Jelena Abbou is a world leading figure competitor, model and personal trainer. She is winner of 2004 WNBF Worlds Pro Natural Figure (New York City), 2004 Natural Atlantic Coast INBF Pro Figure and 2005 Ms. Buffalo Figure Championship. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have been a competitive fitness competitor for over 14 years now and you started competing when you were placed fifth at your first show, the 2001 NPC Women’s Extravaganza. You reached the pinnacle of success when you won the 2005 Ms. Buffalo Figure Overall Championship. Tell us about your journey that took you to the the world of fitness and as a winner in figure professional competitions?
Ms. Jelena Abbou: It was an long and awesome journey. Once I started competing I couldn’t stop. I just feel in love with sport. Goal was to become a IFBB I did in 2006. Next goal was competing at the Olympia and I did, 3 times. And got invited to The Arnold classics twice. Once as ifbb bikini pro once as ifbb figure pro.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You moved from Gornji Milanovac Serbia to US when you were 20 years of age. For a competitor adjusting to new countries with their own cultures it must be difficult and then to adjust your competing habits and style, what advice you can give to fellow sports person in a similar situation?
Ms. Jelena Abbou: I embraced all in the country. I was amazed with size of gyms here and options people have. Gyms in Europe are tiny. And more hard core. Adjustment wasn’t hard for me. Was just more and better options in nutrition and supplements.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a bikini perfect physique?
Ms. Jelena Abbou: My training changed over years and now I’m just maintaining where I am. I don’t lift heavy any more.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?
Ms. Jelena Abbou: No I don’t do that any more. I still eat pretty clean but don’t count calories. I have my cheat meals when I want them and other times I stay on low carb.
