Jasmin Schornberg is a German slalom canoer who has competed since the early 2000s. She won eight medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two golds (K-1: 2009, K-1 team: 2007), two silvers (K-1 team: 2010, 2013) and four bronzes (K-1: 2013; K-1 team: 2006, 2009, 2011).
She is the overall World Cup champion in K-1 from 2007. She also won 5 medals at the European Championships (4 golds and 1 bronze). Schornberg finished 5th in the K-1 event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Jasmin Schornberg was born in Lippstadt and went to school there. She graduated in 2005 her high school. Meanwhile, she went from club to club and tested virtually almost every sport. While riding she flew continuously from Gaul, for playing tennis she was too small, while swimming, she was marginalized as the youngest and the football she was the only girl.
Participating in canoe slalom sports came from her mother, who actively participated in competitions earlier. As a when she was young, then only under supervision, she drove the boat in front of the boathouse back and forth. The whole thing, as it should be, with a life jacket, which at that time was pretty much the same as she had firmly knotted rope on the boat, she was kept in the non-existent flow also from drifting.
Over time, her interest grew for this sport, driven by some examples from her former club in Lippstadt. After ten years she was allowed to accompany the WSCler training camp in Augsburg. There she had the opportunity with the youth channel, that time she was barely moving out of the boat. After 12 years, she started on regular basis to train under the supervision of her mother.
She can still remember very well that at the training sessions in the winter, her mother every day always cycled alongside. In fact, there was even days when her mood was not good, she would say: “Arms Up Jasmine, Jasmine Chin up, stretch it out her arms, sit up straight”. But in the end of each training session, it has contributed to her success and when she thinks in retrospect, she is very grateful to her mother.
In her student days she had quite a struggle to get into the top 20. A big leap she made in the junior class, in which she was qualified for the first time for the Junior National Team. From that time things really took off! Not only nationally, she managed to dust off a few medals but also internationally.
In her youth and junior year she became double world champion and exceeded all her expectations. After her graduation she went to the sports promotion group to Sonthofen and with the intense training directly jump to the seniors category.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You were born in Lippstadt and took part in different sports like tennis, swimming and football. You got interested in canoe slalom as your mother was a regular competitor of the sport. At the age of 12 years you started training for canoe slalom. You reached the pinnacle of success when you won in 2007 World Championships Gold at Foz do Iguaçu in K-1 team. Tell us about your journey that took you to where you are now in the world as a slalom canoeist ?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
During the time I went to school I was paddling once a day. Initially it was just for fun and also because I had (still have) a lot of friends in this sport. After a while I became better and better, that’s why I became more determined. In my fist Junior-Year I qualified myself for the junior national team. From this moment on, I always traveled and raced lot and grew with all the training and races. After the Junior Team I qualified myself for the senior team, I am still in it after 10 Years.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have selected a sports of slalom canoeist that requires a lot of hard labor, technical soundness and excellence in different faculties to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
My coach from my club said that I have talent to get successful in this sport. But talent during all the years was not enough. After School (2005) I moved to Augsburg because of the sport and became a sport soldier, so as to get the best support and started to exercise to get better and more fit. Not just on the water, because in addition to be a technic on the water, you need some power and different skills of coordination. I also like to do different sports like skiing that help me to get more and better fit.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How could you overcome the element of fear in canoe slalom as a sport?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
I have no fear in my sport. If I do some white water sessions and paddling big water, I have just respect for the element water.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
I try to live healthy, most of the time. It’s not always easy because I love chocolate :). I did no diet till yet, because it is important for me to eat a lot to get the power for the next training session. I just try to tune the food with my training sessions. That means, if I do a lot of endurance I try to eat more carbs.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
Because of the water and sun I always have dry skin that’s why I use special vanishing cream. For my hair I use some special care by my hairdresser.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have won and participated in many canoe slalom championships. Share with us your most memorable experience?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
When I was winning the world championships in 2009 and won bronze in 2013 it was amazing to stand on the podium. It was also very emotional and made me happy that in 2009 my parents celebrated with me and my boyfriend also took also part. When I won the junior world championship in 2004, they carried me when I was sitting in my boat – over a big bridge… that was incredible.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your inspiration and motivation that led you to your success in the world of canoeing?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
When I was young, Jochen Lettmann and some other guys from my home town Lippstadt were my idols. During the years in Augsburg I had also a lot of good training partners like Claudia Bär (European Champ) and a lot of coaches, who gave me lot of different advice. It was not easy that the coaches changed so often but maybe it gave me the power I have now.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
In the sports discipline of Women’s canoe slalom you won European Championships Gold in 2007 at Liptovský Mikuláš K-1 team, Gold in 2008 at Kraków K-1 team, Gold in 2010 at Bratislava K-1 team, Gold in 2012 Augsburg K-1 team, World Championship Gold in 2007 Foz do Iguaçu K-1 team and Gold in 2009 La Seu d’Urgell K-1. What responsibility these winnings bestow upon you in your future efforts and activities in the field of canoeing?
Ms. Jasmin Schornberg:
We also were a harmonic and a good team, that’s maybe the reason why we always got a medal. Unfortunately the team race is not part of the olympics.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
