Jamie Anderson took home gold in an abbreviated, windswept finals at the 2018 Winter Games. Anderson is now a two-time medalist after also taking the gold in Sochi four years ago.
Slopestyle is one of the games’ most challenging snowboard events. Competitors have to build the speed to complete bigger and better tricks, all while filling their runs with grinds and jumps that will impress the judges. This February, Anderson once again showcased her dominance, clinching the gold early and making her second run a victory lap.
Jamie Anderson has built a reputation as one of the best female snowboarders in the world. Known for her snowboarding style and strength, Jamie gave the United States a gold-medal sweep in the debut of Olympic Slopestyle competition at the 2014 Sochi Games. She soared to victory in a near flawless run to make history for the United States as the first ever women’s Olympic Slopestyle Gold Medalist.
Growing up near Sierra Mountain with eight siblings, Jamie was introduced to snowboarding by her two older sisters, and began riding at the age of nine after convincing her mom that she was old enough. She quickly rose to the top becoming the youngest Winter X Games medalist at age 15, edging out Shaun White by a matter of days. With eleven X Games medals, most recently taking the 2016 Silver in Slopestyle, she notched her fourth slopestyle gold and at the Winter X Games in 2013. Along with her success at the Olympic and the X Games, Jamie was named the women’s TTR World Tour Champion in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2014, the Winter Dew Cup Champion in 2011 and 2012.
Making a name of herself with her continued success, she appeared on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice after the Olympics in 2014 and also graced the covers of such publications such ESPN the Magazine’s Body Issue and Sport’s Illustrated’s Winter Olympic Preview issue. In 2014, Jamie won two ESPY awards for “Best Female U.S. Olympian” and “Best Female Action Sports Athlete.” Winning her fourth ESPY Award at the 2016 ESPY’s and taking home her third win for “Best Female Action Sports Athlete.”

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You started snowboarding at a young age of 8 and became the youngest woman to win a Winter X Games gold medal with your slopestyle victory in 2007. You reached the pinnacle of success when you took home the gold medal in the Olympic debut of women’s snowboard slopestyle at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Tell us more about this spectacular journey and how it all began?
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
Oh my! This has been quite the journey to say the least… first off I have to express my gratitude for this passion I found at a young age and was able to manifest into my reality! Being a professional athlete was always a dream of mine, I looked up to athletes like Tara Dakides, Travis rice, & Torah bright.. I just wanted to have fun and follow my dreams! I am one of 8 kids, I have five beautiful sisters and two awesome Brothers! My parents raised us in Meyers, CA which is just outside of South Lake Tahoe.. Sierra at Tahoe was my second home and first sponsor. I would’ve not been where I am today without their love and support! And my parents being such free spirits! So thankful ?
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a day in the life of a Professional Snowboarder, preparing for the Olympics.
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
Well I’m currently laying in bed with my boyfriend Tyler, the first snow in whistler blanketed our home last night! Feels good to wake up to snow, I feel like a little kid with this happy I am! Next on this beautiful November Day is drinking lots of water, making some herbal tea, writing in my journal, yoga at 9, eat some good brunch after… then do an afternoon workout.,, this time of year is mellow, but I love it 🙂 home cooked food, walks in nature, spa time… it all feels so good!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share?
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
I feel really connected with myself and my body when I’m practicing yoga! Breathing, balancing and strengthening is my favorite! I think it’s important to do strength training as well but I like to have a trainer guide me and make sure I do everything perfect.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
I definitely try to eat whole food! Lots of fresh salad and veggies, I like to support the local and organic farmers, and thankfully most of the meat I eat is wild game as my boyfriend hunts … I’m very strict on the meat I support as our food industry is beyond scary now a days. Knowledge is power and we truly are what we eat! Don’t support Genetically modified food and commercial animal farming or any commercial farming. We have a choice to “vote” everyday with the dollars we spend… give your energy & money to the company’s that care ! That’s what I feel about food anyway…

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Tell us about the beauty care routine of a snowboarder. How do you take care of your hair and skin?
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
I drink lots of Alkaline water! I use an awesome machine that purifies the tap water called “Vollara living water” it really helps my hair, skin and whole body!
I also like to use a good natural sunscreen as the reflection of the snow is crazy strong! And for my hair which usually is super dry because of the climate I always need a good oil! Lately I’ve been using jojoba oil and it’s super nice! I also like clay masks, salt scrubs, Ayurvedic oil massages, just anything to help nurture the Body, then our inner beauty can truly shine!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have tried to leverage your success into positive contributions for the community, creating an environmentally conscious clothing company named TRYE (To Respect Your Earth). Tell us more about it.
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
That has transitioned into LOU (love our universe) I’m starting with alpaca wool hats and raising money for my charity which helps get kids into sports and environmental awareness! Trying to make things full circle here 😉
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding female snowboarders who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of snowboarding?
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
Follow your passion! Whatever field you’re in if you really love what your doing you will excel! Have fun, be light, spread the light, stay in tune with yourself and your power and you can achieve anything you want!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did you feel before and after winning an Olympic gold medal, the first ever offered in slopestyle, at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi?
Ms. Jamie Anderson:
I felt good before and I feel good after!! Haha but yeah that was a crazy challenge of mine! It was definitely the best event I ever Won! So much stress and pressure it was almost unbearable… but as soon as I was able to get out of my ego and trust god, universe energy, whatever you want to call it, I was at ease and able to flow no worries. But getting to that peaceful place is the most difficult part!
