Hot Fitness Tip

Squatting deep is not bad for the knees. In fact, deep squats might actually increase knee stability. Most of the connective tissue in the knee is made up of two ligaments: The anterior and posterior cruciate ligament, also known as the ACL and the PCL. Studies show the forces inside the ACL and PCL decrease the more the knee is bent, meaning the deeper you squat, the less pressure there is inside the knees. It's also a better way to get stronger. Not only is squatting deep safe and effective, but it's a one-way ticket to a nice, strong booty.

So long as there's no history of injuries, getting low is the way to go.

Words of Inspiration

Overcoming Failures

Many of us have probably experienced failure at one time or another. Failing can be immobilizing – it can cause us to do nothing, and therefore resist moving forward. But when we allow fear to stop our forward progress in life, we're likely to miss some great opportunities along the way.

It's important to realize that in everything we do, there's always a chance that we'll fail. Facing that chance, and embracing it, is not only courageous – it also gives us a fuller, more rewarding life.

Here are ways to reduce the fear of failing:

Analyze all potential outcomes – Remove that fear by considering all of the potential outcomes of your decision.
Learn to think more positively – Positive thinking is an incredibly powerful way to build self-confidence and neutralize self-sabotage.
Look at the worse-case scenario – In some cases, the worst case scenario may be genuinely disastrous, and it may be perfectly rational to fear failure. In other cases, however, this worst case may actually not be that bad, and recognizing this can help.
Have a contingency plan – If you're afraid of failing at something, having a "Plan B" in place can help you feel more confident about moving forward.

Taking one small step at a time will help build your confidence and keep you moving forward.

  • 2 tsp. coarsely chopped shallots

  • 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

  • 4 tsp. fresh lemon juice

  • 2 tsp. agave syrup

  • 2 tsp. balsamic vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp. Dijon-style mustard

  • Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
