International Women's Day (8 March) is a special day reserved to address the issues and needs of women around the world. In the article, Uprooting Top 10 Health Myths we catch up on some Women health and fitness myths in order to help them better understand themselves.

Emotional eating can be a real problem with those struggling to lose weight. Experts till date don't know exactly why we gravitate toward fatty or sugary foods when we're feeling down, or how those foods affect our emotions. Taste and the pleasant memories associated with junk foods surely play a role, but that may be only part of the story. This week focus is on Emotional Eating: Coming to Terms with the Vulnerable Truth.

Hot Fitness Tip

A recent study of more than 11,000 pregnant women, in partnership with Mars Petcare, showed that those who owned dogs were approximately 50% more likely to achieve the recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day through high levels of brisk walking than those without dogs. Scientists suggest that as it is a low-risk exercise, walking a dog could form part of a broader strategy to improve the health of pregnant women.

Gradually increase the duration and intensity of exercise of the course of a few weeks, as you would with yourself.

Be consistent and committed. This means a daily, not just a weekend, exercise routine. This approach will enable your dog -- and you -- to gradually build up stamina.

Words of Inspiration

Choices

Everything you do is, directly or indirectly, what you choose to do, the people, things and situations which make up your life are the result of your own choices. Is there any point in feeling resentment toward them, or in blaming them when life does not meet your expectations?

The choices you have already made brought you to where you are right now. The choices you make now, can take you wherever you want to go. Though you may feel trapped and powerless, that is not the case at all. You can choose to overcome your obstacles. You can choose to follow your dream.

There is no escaping the fact that today you will make choices. Those choices will determine the course of your life. Everything you do, everything you have, everything you become is ultimately the result of the choices you have made. You have the power to direct your life. How will you use it right now?

What are your choices?

Calories: 330 Kcal, Total fat: 11 g (2 g saturated fat) , Carbohydrates: 34 g,
Protein: 20 g , Dietary fiber: 6 g, Sodium: 420 mg.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large red bell pepper, halved and seeded
    Salt to taste

  • 1/4 tsp. each dried basil, oregano and thyme

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 large egg white

  • Olive oil cooking spray

  • 2 tsp. grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 Tbsp. chopped flat-leaf parsley

  • 2 Tbsp. reduced-fat ricotta cheese

  • 1/8 tsp. harissa, or to taste

  • 1 low-fat whole-wheat wrapper

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

  • Place pepper, cut side down, on foil-covered baking sheet. Bake until skin is puffed and blistered, 20-30 minutes. Transfer pepper to bowl, cover with plate, and let steam for 20 minutes. Pull off skin from pepper, using your fingers or small knife.

  • Place pepper on plate. Sprinkle with salt and dried herbs, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight, or up to 24 hours.

  • In bowl, whisk egg and egg white together until well blended. Coat 8-inch skillet with cooking spray, and set over medium-high heat. Add egg, tilting to coat bottom of pan, and cook until egg is set, 1-2 minutes. Sprinkle on cheese and parsley, and cook until surface of omelet looks dull, 2-3 minutes. Slide flat omelet onto plate and set aside.

  • In small bowl, combine ricotta and harissa. Blot roasted pepper dry using paper towel, and cut pepper into very thin strips.

  • To assemble wrap, spread ricotta mixture over wrapper, leaving 1/2-inch uncovered around edges. Slide omelet onto wrapper, positioning it near one end. With narrow end of wrapper toward you, arrange 8-10 pepper strips horizontally on top of egg, and starting at end near you, tightly roll up wrapper. Cut rolled wrap diagonally into 3 pieces and serve immediately.
