New Happening

A recent research found that eating potatoes was not accompanied by changes in body weight, blood fats (lipids) or glucose levels (HbA1c), but resulted in lower blood pressure: the diastolic (the lower reading of a conventional blood pressure reading such as 120/80) went down by a significant 4.3%, and systolic by 3.5%. This week we cover an article on Potato, Far From a Devil's Food.

Watch out the, Herbs That Help Shed Pounds, in the article indicating how several herbs containing sympathomimetics and xanthine compounds synergistically increase the body's basal metabolic rate to increase the burning of calories and fat.

Hot Fitness Tip of the week

With the increasing pressure of time and work load almost all of us forget to breathe properly, our posture is almost invariably poor and we go through life using hardly 30 per cent of our lung capacity. As the cells of organs such as the heart, lungs, brain cells, blood, muscles and bowel get deprived of oxygen, disease slowly starts creeping in.

Pranayam properly done can help cure all diseases, To do the same, Sit in padmaasana. Breathe inside slowly, very slowly, allowing the smooth passage of prana to each molecule, fiber and cell of the body. Expand diaphragm, so more air will come in lungs. Hold for 4/5 seconds. Exhale slowly by contracting diaphragm giving the air cells sufficient time to re-absorb the residual prana to the maximum possible extent. Again hold breath out for 4/5 seconds. Repeat 3-4 times.

Each inhalation activates the Central Nervous System into stimulating the peripheral nerves and each exhalation triggers the reverse process. During retention of breath, both processes take place.

Excellence

Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude. Excellence comes not from education, money, ability or connections alone. It comes from a commitment to do the very best with whatever you have available.

Excellence is very valuable, and it is open to anyone who commits to follow it. Excellence is always in demand, in any field of endeavor, in any economic climate, in any set of circumstances.

Excellence comes from thoroughness, from attending to the necessary details, from a sincere desire to make a positive difference.

No matter what the task, if it's followed through with excellence, people will take notice. The effort you put into creating excellence will be effort wisely invested. Everyone has the opportunity to produce excellence in their own way, and it is an opportunity that anyone would do well to capitalize on.

Potato: Far From a Devil's Food

The potato's stereotyped as a fattening food for health-conscious folks to avoid is getting another revision as scientists report that just a couple servings of spuds a day reduces blood pressure almost as much as oatmeal without causing weight gain. When prepared without frying and served without butter, margarine or sour cream, one potato has only 110 calories and dozens of healthful phytochemicals and vitamins

The blood pressure went down in spite of the fact 14 of the 18 participants were also on blood pressure medication. The researchers concluded that purple potatoes are an effective agent for lowering blood pressure and thereby lower the risk of heart disease and stroke in patients with high blood pressure. Although researchers used purple potatoes, they believe that red-skin potatoes and white potatoes may have similar effects.
