New Happening

Body Image is defined as the mental representation of your physical self at any given point in time. Body image refers to how you see yourself, how you feel others perceive you, and what you believe about your physical appearance. Body image is influenced more by self-esteem than by how physically attractive you are to others. It is how YOU feel about in your body.

While you are looking around for a workout partner in order to get fit, just a hand shake away is one in form of mother and/or a daughter. Age doesn't matter if you have a daughter who is a pre-schooler, grade schooler, teenager and so on. As we go on to celebrate "Mother's Day", check out the article on Workout Tips for mother-daughter duo.

Hot Fitness Tip of the week
If you look "flat" and you're not getting a pump, usually the problem is not enough carbohydrates. This is most likely to occur while you are on a strict, low carbohydrate diet and you are also doing a high volume of cardiovascular training.

Your body can store approximately 400 grams of carbohydrate in your muscles. This storage form of carbohydrate is called glycogen. Glycogen literally "fills up" your muscles. When you are in heavy training (such as four miles of running plus weights every day), the cardio burns up all the glycogen from your muscles. If you don't eat enough carbohydrate to replenish it, your muscles will look "flat." Depletion of muscle glycogen actually causes your muscles to "deflate."

Your muscles could be likened to balloons and glycogen to air. Pump up a balloon full of air and the balloon stretches and expands to its capacity. That's what happens to you when your glycogen is full. The muscle is harder, the muscle is bigger, and the skin is tighter. When you let some air out of a balloon, the balloon "deflates" and gets smaller, flatter and softer. So it is with your muscles.

Most people think carbs are fattening and that all carbs are bad, so they cut back severely, or worse yet, they cut them out completely. This is a big mistake! Low carbs equals low energy and a flat, "un-pumped" appearance. True, too many carbs can make you fat, but so can too much of any food. The fact is, you need carbs to train hard!

So here's the "secret". Eat carbs in moderation. Not Zero carbs. Not High carbs - moderate carbs. Reduce your carbs slightly, especially at night.

Words of Inspiration

Turning positive

In every life there is plenty of time and energy available for magnificent success and achievement. Yet too often that energy is wasted on unproductive, negative pursuits.

The next time you feel yourself becoming negative, stop and consider what would happen if you applied that negative energy in a positive direction. Imagine what would happen if you simply turned it around, and put it to work for you instead of against you.

A car that is traveling 70 miles per hour toward the north can be easily stopped, turned around and heading 70 miles per hour toward the south. In the same way, you can control your own personal energy to that it moves you toward your goals and dreams rather than away from them.

Instead of bitterly complaining, transform your complaints into useful and productive suggestions. Instead of being envious, transform that envy into positive admiration. Rather than wasting your time with worry, make use of your time with action.

Instead of getting destructively angry, become creatively determined. The energy is already there, ready for you to use. Just imagine what can happen when you make sure it flows in a positive direction.

Success Quote

"Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfection, but instantly see about remedying them - every day begin the task anew."
