Hot Fitness Tip of the week

Proper posture is critical to ensure you are working the correct muscle groups and not putting your body at risk of injury. If seated, sit up straight. Always keep your abdominals contracted through the entire set of any exercise. Pull them up and in toward your spine to help stabilize your trunk. Keep your shoulders back and chest lifted up and out during any seated, bent-over or standing exercise.

Words of Inspiration

Go beyond

Everything you have ever achieved represents just a fraction of your total potential. The knowledge you utilize is just a small portion of the knowledge that's available to you. There is strength in you that has never been used. You have ideas which have never been expressed, skills which are not anywhere near being fully utilized.

You have already been very successful in making it this far. Just imagine how much more you could achieve by delving into your untapped possibilities.

If your expectations are based on what you've already done, you'll have trouble seeing all those possibilities. So raise your expectations to better match your incredible potential. Expect more and you'll become more. Base your expectations on the assumption that everything you have ever done adds up to only five percent of what you're capable of doing.

Actively pursue that other ninety-five percent. It's there, waiting for you to believe in it enough to see it and use it. Go beyond the comfortable sameness of your past into the incredible possibilities which now await you.

Healthy Recipe

Mango, Cucumber and Red Pepper Salad

Makes: 4 servings (4 cups)

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice

  • 2 Tbsp. orange juice

  • 2 tsp. brown sugar

  • 1/8 tsp. red pepper flakes

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • Ground black pepper

  • 2 Persian (or 1, 8-inch piece seedless cucumber), peeled and cut in 1/4-inch slices

  • 1 small red bell pepper, seeded and cut into 3/8-inch strips

  • 1 ripe medium mango

  • 8 red lettuce leaves

  • 1/4 cup lightly packed spearmint leaves

  • 1/4 cup unsalted dry-roasted peanuts, chopped

Direction:

  • In medium mixing bowl, combine lime and orange juices with sugar, red pepper flakes, salt and a few grinds black pepper. Add cucumber and red pepper.

  • For mango, cut thin slice off stem and pointed ends. Using a swivel-bladed vegetable peeler or sharp paring knife, remove peel in strips, working from one cut end of fruit to the other. Cut flesh away from both sides of the pit, making two large domes. (Any flesh remaining on the pit is the cook's portion.) Cut each mango half lengthwise into 1/4-inch strips and add to mixing bowl.

  • Toss with fork to combine salad, then set aside for 20-30 minutes to allow ingredients to marinate in the dressing.

  • To serve, line four salad plates with lettuce leaves. Mound one-fourth of salad onto each plate. Sprinkle on mint and peanuts. Serve immediately.

Top 10 to a Fabulous Party Plan

The following tips will work for any soiree - a high school reunion, an office holiday party, or your favorite niece's Bat Mitzvah. You deserve to look and feel your best at any special event. And hey, if you're paying big money for a great outfit, you'll want to bring your spectacular abs along to the party.

Stop fat talk

"Hey I look fat?" does nothing to make others think your abs are buff, nor does it help your self confidence. Turn off the negative tape in your head and tune into a more positive self-perception. If your girlfriends start in, change the subject fast so you all don't end up wallowing in a junk food self-pity party that will dash your efforts at getting a sexier stomach - not to mention maintaining your self- esteem.

Sweep your hair into a ponytail

What does your hairdo have to do with sexier abs? Plenty. The way you style your hair can make you look longer and leaner. Try an updated ponytail: Gently tease the crown using a comb, smooth your hair straight back with your hands (without a part), and secure a high ponytail at the middle of your head. Gently loosen the hair at the crown for a fuller look. Try teasing the tail below the elastic band for a perky ponytail. Or the curl the ends under with a single hot roller. Be sure to gently finger and separate the ponytail once it's curled for a more natural look.

Take an anti-gas tablet

Over-the-counter anti-gas medication helps relieve some stomach swelling caused by taking in too much air or eating belly-bloating foods. Follow package directions.
