Training

able to squat one and a half times your body weight you
will see a huge change in your muscles. When practicing
squats make sure they are free weight squats where your
hips come lower than your knees. |

Dream like a child
Once a daughter asked her father, "Why can't I touch the sky?" He laughed inside
and thought for a few moments. and tried to explain it from the Jack and the
Beanstalk story, but she just looked at me funny. Then he tried the old earth
space thing, but that was too technical. The more he tried, the clumsier it got
when finally he realized he wasn't getting through.
That night while lying in bed, he kept thinking about her question and why he
couldn't come up with a really cool answer. Was it because he had "grown up" and
now used his imagination like an "adult"? As he grew, the maturation process
obviously had boxed in. And worse yet... he knew that someday, his little girl
just might lose her pure and trusting imagination to adulthood and maybe stop
asking these wonderfully creative questions.
Remember when we were younger, when we used to talk about and imagine what we
would become when we grew up? We believed anything was possible and we could
become whatever we wanted, never doubting the possibilities. As children, we
dreamed big. We lose a little bit of the wonder of life around us as we schedule
the next meeting or plan tomorrow's agenda.
Reconnect with your childlike imagination and think more outside the box of
adult creativity. If you do that, maybe you can explain in a six-year-old way,
why she can... touch the sky.

Italian Pea and
Basil Soup
Makes: 4
cups
Ingredients:

75 ml/5 tbsp
olive oil
-
2 large
onions, chopped
-
1 celery
stick, chopped
-
1 carrot,
chopped
-
1 garlic
clove, finely chopped
-
400g/3 1/2
cups frozen petit poi's
-
900ml/3 3/4
cups vegetable stock
-
25g/1 cup
fresh basil leaves, roughly torn, plus extra to garnish salt and freshly
ground black pepper vegan parmesan cheese, to serve (optional)
Direction:

Heat the oil
in a large saucepan and add the onions, celery and carrot and garlic. Cover
the pan and cook over a low heat for 45 minutes or until the vegetables are
soft. Stir occasionally to prevent the vegetables sticking to the base of
the pan.

Add the peas
and stock to the pan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat, add the basil
and seasoning, then simmer for 10 minutes.

Process the
soup in a food processor, or blender, for a few minutes until the texture is
smooth. Transfer to bowls, sprinkle with vegan parmesan, if using, and
garnish with torn basil leaves.

Fasting: how far can it help you lose Weight
Fasting is simply the restriction of our usual eating.
Whether a fruit fast or a water fast or a fast from
meat, or beef or sweets, fasting is a restriction of our
food, a diet.
Fasting can be a real life saver for the overweight
person. The benefit of fasting is not in weight loss.
Fasting will make you lose weight. A water fast will
result in an average of 1 to 2 pounds per day of weight
loss. But that is not the benefit of fasting for weight
loss. The power of fasting is not in losing weight
during the fast, but in gaining control of your
appetite.
Benefits of Fasting

During a fast, the body burns its own fat. As the
body burns its fat there is a release of chemical
compounds called "ketones".

Second, your digestive system is cleaner. The villi
in the intestines are cleaner, the stomach lining is
cleaner, the colon is cleaner.
When you combine those two elements, a cleaner more
efficient body with a slower metabolism, you need less
food for the same level of activity. Food is absorbed
and utilized better in a clean digestive system.
If it takes less food to do the same thing, it means
one of three things:

You need to cut down on the food you were eating
before the fast since you do not need as much food
for the same level of activity.

If you eat the same amount of food after the fast as
before, you need more physical activity to use the
extra efficiency and slowed metabolism.

If you eat the same, and have the same activity
level, you may get fatter!
Fasting on a periodic basis allows a person to gradually
gain control over their appetite. Do not gorge before or
after the fast! Learning to control your desire for food
as you break your fast is a great aid in controlling it
daily.
