Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You came from Russia to Europe, then to South America and later captured the catwalks of New York USA. Tell us about your journey that took you to the top of the world of glamour?
Ms. Elena Foley:
The long journey started when I was 16. I arrived in Milan, and it was my first time abroad. My English was not perfect; I didn’t know the city either. In the hotel where I was staying, the receptionist informed me about model agencies. I went to strongest one and they immediately took me.
I walked a lot of runways, only runways. I didn’t do any editorials or magazines, just a few tests. My agency connected me with Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona where I did nothing but shows. I loved it with all my heart, the adrenaline and chaos.
My main goal was always to end up in New York. But I couldn’t get in, as I had no portfolio. In New York you have to compete with the best of best, and without photos it’s impossible. So I was thinking of where would I go to get a large amount of editorials in a short period of time. I thought about Mexico… I would be able to deliver an element of exotic there. So I flew there and it worked. Within three months I had done around 60-70 magazines, where I was featured in about 25-30 covers.
I tried sending the work to New York agencies but they didn’t accept me, as my portfolio was still weak. The only agency that hired me was located in Miami Paradise. After spending some time there, I was able to build up a stronger portfolio with well-known photographers. Then I flew to New York.
