Namita Nayyar:
You were born in Irkutsk, Russia and now live in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Your mother, Julia Vedeneeva, has coached you in rhythmic gymnastics and you started training in rhythmic gymnastics in your hometown Irkutsk in Russia. You made your debut for Slovenia in August 2018 at the World Cup event in Kazan, Russian Federation. On a national level, you are a two-time (2019 & 2021) Slovenian National All-around champion. This later propelled your career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as a leading rhythmic gymnast. Tell us more about your journey of exceptional hard work, tenacity, and endurance?
Ekaterina Vedeneeva:
I was not trained with my mother but she just got me into gymnastics. She really works as a coach, since 2008. I have been doing gymnastics for 23 years. I love this sport and live it! The first successes began at the age of 10-12 years, and then I began to win regional and all-Russian competitions, then, when I switched to the senior program.
I became a member of the Russian national team; I was the winner of the Championships and Cups of Russia, a multiple winner and prize-winners of international tournaments, playing for Russia. In 2018, I changed my citizenship in order to get into more serious and major competitions, such as the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Since then, my sports life has been connected with this wonderful country of Slovenia.
Namita Nayyar:
You in April 2019 became the first Slovenian to earn a medal at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup, a bronze medal in the ribbon final at the Tashkent World Cup. That same year you became the first Slovenian to win a medal at the Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix, a silver medal in the ball final at the Holon Grand Prix in Israel. In 2020, you started the season at the Grand Prix in Moscow, where you competed in all Apparatus Finals and won a bronze medal in the ribbon final with a score of 19.900. Tell us more about your experience of these spectacular exceptional achievements?
Ekaterina Vedeneeva:
I am very glad that I can raise the Slovenian flag at competitions at this level
This is the most important thing at work. Look in one direction, have one goal and have complete mutual understanding in any situation. This is my key to success.
Without a coach there would be nothing. And of course, the support of close people who are exactly the same with you towards your goal. Rejoice you victories, experience failures, but always believe in yourself and support you.
