Dorothea Wierer: Italian Biathlete 2X Olympics Bronze Medalist and 3X World Champion tells her Success Story

Dorothea Wierer Corradini is an Italian biathlete competing in the Biathlon World Cup is world’s top biathlon stars. Together with Karin Oberhofer, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer she won a bronze medal in the mixed relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea she won again the bronze medal in the mixed relay with Lisa Vittozzi, Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch. She is the 2019 mass start world champion, and 2020 individual and pursuit world champion.

Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with Dorothea Wierer exceptionally talented Italian biathlete two times Olympics Bronze Medalist and three times World Champion here she talks about her workout, diet, beauty secrets and her success story.

Namita Nayyar:

Your love for Biathlon sports started early in life. You won your first Biathlon World Championships bronze medal in 2013 in Nové Město na Moravě, which was the first-ever medal for Italian women at the Biathlon World Championships. This later propelled your career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as an Italian biathlete and winning twice bronze medals in the Olympics and Three Gold, Four Silver, and Three Bronze in Biathlon World Championships over the years. Tell us more about your journey of exceptional hard work, tenacity, and endurance?

Dorothea Wierer:

When I was a teenager I didn’t take training very seriously because I preferred staying with my friends and make some party but Later when I was like 21-22 years old i saw that I have to train more to stay at the same level like the other girls. So it’s very important to be ambitious in training and to not give up to easily also if sometimes things don’t go very well.

Namita Nayyar:

You have been a member of the Italian biathlete Team and had competed in the World Championships. Tells how you were drawn to this sport of Biathlon and your meteoric rise to be a member of the Italian biathlete Team?

Dorothea Wierer:

Biathlon is a traditional sport in our valley so I started with it at the age of nine. I was a very loud and active child so it was a good balance to me and I liked it a lot to compete against other girls. For me it was just funny and challenging. I was good at shooting and at skiing and at the age of 18 I became part of the Italian national team.

Namita Nayyar:

You have won a bronze medal in the Mixed Relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia, and again at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea you won the bronze medal in the mixed relay? Tell us more about your experience of these two of your exceptional achievements?

Dorothea Wierer:

The Olympic Games are the most important events in the life of an athlete and therefore they bring you also a lot of pressure. Achieving these two podiums with my teammates was such a beautiful moment. In our sport everyone has to do his own thing during the competition but it was good to see that we can get great results also in the team competitions. It shows that we are a strong and competitive team over years.

Namita Nayyar:

You have won in Biathlon World Championships a total of 10 medals (3 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze). How do you manage such a remarkable achievement and which of these wins is most dear to your heart and why?

Dorothea Wierer:

Winning these medals is a process over the years. Every year of hard training and every race teaches you something new and I tried to use all this experience and the good shape of my body in that races. The most beautiful podium at the world championship was the one I could celebrate at my home races in Antholz 2020. I have been training there since I started with biathlon and therefore winning at this place means very much to me.

Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?

Dorothea Wierer:

The workout exercises I do very often are: Front squat, hip thrust, pull-ups, and dips, bench pressing and of course core.

Namita Nayyar:

What is your fitness routine in such pandemic times?

Dorothea Wierer:

My fitness routine didn’t change a lot during pandemic times because I train every day twice and my training consists of hiking running roller skiing or cross country skiing gym and biking and of course shooting.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you train your abs? One secret to your toned body.

Dorothea Wierer:

After my normal strength routine I always practice some abs workout for 15- 20 minutes with plank, sit-ups, crunch, sideplank hip dips, leg raises, Russian twist,…and some hard yoga session.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you take a special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Dorothea Wierer:

For me it’s important to eat healthy at the main meals which mean carbohydrates, vitamins and proteins. But I think with all these hours of training it’s necessary to eat also some sweets. Personally I never could follow a strict diet.

Namita Nayyar:

Five foods you absolutely love and five you keep to a minimum.

Dorothea Wierer:

I like very much: Quinoa salad, sweet potatoes form the oven with other veggies, pizza, chocolate, fresh fish. To keep to a minimum are tomatoes, eggplants, Tuna.

Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your hair care and skincare routine. What special care do you take for both hair and skin during extreme winter weather?

Dorothea Wierer:

I think good skin and hair come from the right nutrition! But of course also me I don’t have a perfect skin maybe it looks on the photos like this but some days I have also spots But I use dermatological tested and natural products to hydrate and my skin in the morning and after my trainings. Sometimes we have really extreme conditions so it can be -20 or during the summer training under +30°.
And it’s important to clean the skin after training and but in some cream depends what my skin needs

For my hair I use normal solid shampoo, some oils to keep them soft and silky.

Dorothea Wierer:

My advice to those young athletes is that if you like the thing you’re doing you should follow it and give everything but also enjoy. So you can always be proud and happy with yourself because you know that you gave you´re best whenever you can. This is very important, mental health and happiness is the base of success.

Namita Nayyar:

You have amazing 604k followers on Instagram. Tell us what advice you can give to increase one’s followers on Instagram? Also a message for your Instagram followers.

Dorothea Wierer:

I think interesting and natural content are very important. To be as you are not be another person… I am proud and happy that so many nice people are interested on me and my life as an athlete. I just tried to show how is my real life it’s not only sport but also other things in my life and maybe I have more ‘Free Time’ pics on my account then sport pics because during training I don’t have always time to make some photos.

Namita Nayyar:

You along with “Sportful” have created a collection featuring a series of garments that combine practicality, design, technical performance, and femininity “Doro Style”, to enjoy a fashionable winter, moving comfortably in cold temperatures and always having the right look. Tell us more about this endeavor of yours?

Dorothea Wierer:

Yes it’s really cool to have my own sport line especially for cross country skiing because it’s Italian high-quality products and we using the same brand with the national team.

I was just asking some years ago to have another color for my training suit and the boss of Sportful one year later was asking me if I was interested to make my own line for cross country skiing.. So I was really happy and everything was just started like five years ago now and we are really happy because there are a lot of fans and women who are wearing this because you can also go to run ski mountaineering and just use it for some outdoor activities. For me the most important was always to have a high quality product which is looking really good.

Namita Nayyar:

I think it’s important to say that it’s really important to have a healthy lifestyle and to enjoy with some sports it doesn’t matter which one and enjoy my interview.
