Bradie Tennell:

It’s so hard to pick just two instances! I have so many amazing memories from my childhood, growing up in the sport. I would say my two most memorable instances are winning my National title in 2018 and finding out that I made the Olympic team. Both of those things happened on the same day and I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was so happy I thought I would burst. It was my childhood dream comes true.

Namita Nayyar:

You are the 2018 Olympic team event bronze medallist, the 2020 Four Continents bronze medallist, the 2018 CS Autumn Classic champion, the 2018 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb champion, and the 2018 U.S national champion. Among all these victories, which one is closest to your heart and why?

Bradie Tennell:

The Olympics will always be one of the proudest moments of my life. I don’t think anything can really compare to standing on the podium with my teammates watching our country’s flag being raised. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. It was a lifetime of work being realised and I can’t put into words how much it meant to me.

Namita Nayyar:

Introduce us to a day in your life.

Bradie Tennell:

My day starts pretty early. I get up at 4:30 a.m., and I leave my house by 5:15 to get to the rink. I am always on the ice before 7 a.m., and I finish my day of skating around 1 pm. After I’m done with my practice, I switch gears and teach my students. This is one of my favourite parts of my day.

I love being able to share my passion for the sport with the younger kids. After I’m done teaching, I head home for a little bit to regroup before I go to the gym for some off-ice work. Depending on the day, I could be doing anything from ballet to plyometric. After I finish at the gym, I come home for the night and spend time with my family.

Namita Nayyar:

Exercises that comprise a part of your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share with our viewers?

Bradie Tennell:

There are so many great exercises I have in my routine, but I think my favourite part is running. It’s such a great way to clear your mind and stay in shape. I also do various plyometric to help keep my jumps strong.

Namita Nayyar:

Share the diet that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit? Five foods you absolutely love that are completely nutritious.

Bradie Tennell:

I would say my diet consists of lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats and fish. Some of my favorites include sushi, chicken veggie stir fry, kiwi, pineapples and dried mangos.

Namita Nayyar:

Having to train constantly, how do you take care of your skin and hair? Five skin boosters.

Bradie Tennell:

I have super sensitive skin so I have to be really careful with what I put on it. I really love Shaklee’s acne clarifying complex for stubborn breakouts. I just dab a bit of it on the blemish, and by the next morning it’s usually gone. As for my hair, I always have it in a bun for training because it is very thick. I try to find hair products that are paraben free and my absolute favourite ones are from Shaklee. It leaves my hair feeling so soft and shiny.

Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influence and motivator in your success in the field of your career?

Bradie Tennell:

Growing up, I really admired Michelle Kwan and Yuna Kim. I loved watching the way they flew across the ice and I would sit in front of the TV and imagine that it was me out there doing what they were doing.

Namita Nayyar:

In June 2016, you faced a stress fracture and were off the ice for three months while undergoing intense physical therapy. How do you gather the strength to face these injuries? What was the recovery period like?

Bradie Tennell:

My stress fractures were really hard for me, not just because they were painful, but because it was the longest I had ever been away from the ice. However, I knew if I wanted to return to the sport I had to become stronger than I had ever been.

I used my time away to let my body heal and gain strength from the physical therapy. Some days were harder than others, but I had a fantastic support system and I came out of it stronger both physically and mentally.

Namita Nayyar:

Five tips to work upon while preparing to become a professional figure skater.

Bradie Tennell:
  1. Balance.
  2. Core strength
  3. Ballet
  4. Plyometric
  5. Nutrition
Namita Nayyar:

Apart from skating, what other activities do you enjoy the most?

Bradie Tennell:

When I’m not on the ice I love playing the piano, reading, and cooking. I also love spending time with my family and friends hanging out watching movies or playing games.

Namita Nayyar:

With the current outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, how are you preparing for the future championships?

Bradie Tennell:

I’m trying to stay as active as possible by roller blading, running, and keeping up a consistent workout regime. There is so much you can still do even without being able to be on the ice every day, so it has been a fun challenge finding new ways to stay in shape.
