Ms. Namita Nayyar:
At an early age you participated in kick-boxing, gymnastics and soccer classes. As a college student you became interested in powerlifting and soon became the European Power lifting Champion in your weight class.Tell us about your journey that took you to the top of the world of figure and bikini competitions?
Ms. Bernadett Matassa:
I think in the bottom of my heart I always knew my life will be belonging to the fitness world. I started out very early at age of 4 taking kickboxing classes, soccer and judo as afterschool program. My parents already knew when I was a little girl that they are going to have to keep me occupied and keep me really busy because I had tons of energy!
I really enjoy all the sports listed above however I was always more of a “lonely wolf ” when it came to physical training. I think probably because kids always came and went. I was the only one Lego didn’t quit. At age of 18 I started to go to the gym and lift weights. The owner of the studio came up to me right after I joined that he thought I had a lot of potential to do power lifting competitions. One year later I won the European championship of power lifting in my weight class. I really thought that will be the sport I will be doing for a long time until I hurt my lower back lifting too heavy one day. I had to quit and shift my workouts towards more of a conditioning type of routine not as much as heavy lifting. This is a short story of how I ended up doing bodybuilding giving up power lifting.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How your experience and background of as an accomplished athlete and sportsperson has helped you in your present profession of Fitness Trainer, Fitness Expert and Fitness Model?
Ms. Bernadett Matassa:
My basic theory about training people is :
It’s not enough to have book knowledge about physical education you also have to have huge personal experience on dieting and exercising. Every single person out there is different. They need to be handled different as well. In my past I came across many trainers who puts almost all of their client through the same exact work out no matter what shape they are in , what injuries they have or what kind of health issues they might struggling with..
Getting ready for a bodybuilding show it’s always very difficult and requires a lot of discipline. I do believe that the trainer must experience this before they try to explain it to the client who doesn’t really know what to expect starting their journey in the fitness field. To be able to help them the most effective way the trainer has to understand what’s going on not only physically but also mentally as well. I believe all the struggles and hardships I had to go through to present my shape on the stage helped me a lot to be able to understand and help others with their own journey to the healthy lifestyle.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
