Did you know that Jessica Alba, Kourtney Kardashian and Brooke Burke have something in common? These hot mamas have used belly binding to get back in shape after giving birth!
Kourtney Kardashian wore a post-pregnancy wrap in the weeks following the birth of her son Mason. “[It] actually helps tighten and shrink your belly after giving birth,” the reality star wrote on her blog. It promotes intense core sweating, reduces belly bloat and helps get rid of extra bulges and the dreaded muffin top.
The concept is that by wearing something that tightly binds your belly after you have your baby, you help your uterus shrink back down to size, help shrink that flabby tummy, and you also improve your posture while you’re nursing (when you have something binding your abs, it’s kind of hard to slouch!) From an immediate postpartum perspective, I’d say it most likely falls in the “can’t hurt, might help” category. The band really isn’t that uncomfortable but appeals the of feeling of a bit more tucked in and held together as opposed to a lumpy blob of bread dough.
According to doctors “Belly wraps are not new and have been around for a very long time. In the field of obstetrics, these have been prescribed for quick delivery recovery, abdominal support, posture and self-confidence. Weight loss is not one the of the indications that this has been traditionally prescribed for.” Belly binding can considerably cut down all the discomfort caused after c-section, for anything that requires the use of your ab muscles is TERRIFYING (post-delivery).
The belly binder provides a really nice support while your muscles take a breather after birth. It will help you sit upright, instead of totally hunched over. Making you feel pulled together.
Tips for Buying A Belly Wrap?
When choosing a size make sure it’s actually tight enough to make a difference. If you try it on and can see a difference, as well as feel that it’s tight enough to be supporting you then that should be good enough.
Depending on width, you can buy 5 or 6 strips lengthwise, and can choose to pretty it up with hem or not. About 12″ wide, raw works good. Opt for a product made out of nylon and neoprene which promotes intense sweating to help you lose inches quickly from your waist.
Invest if you are ready To wear it for a minimum of 1/2 hour a day. Ranging from $45-$65, you choose your size and color and hope for the best.
Products You Can Buy
My advice is do not get too dependent on belly binding products — at some point, you will need to step away from the girdle and start exercising and using your core muscles. Let your abs actually do the job they’re intended to do, sooner rather than later.
