Paleo is NOT a diet, It’s a lifestyle choice.
Base Culture was founded by Jordann Windschauer-Amatea at the age of 22 following her graduation from the University of South Florida.
When Jordann started her 30-day Paleo challenge, it changed her life. Physical fatigue, mental stress, and sleepless nights disappeared, but her sweet tooth remained. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t find any delicious, truly Paleo baked good, so she stepped up to the challenge.
In 2012, out of her post-grad apartment Jordann started baking a line of treats that took off like wildfire. Her Paleo CrossFit buddies, gluten-free friends, and even family with no dietary restrictions couldn’t get enough of these sweet snacks. Her passion for helping others, served as the foundation of her new business, as she wanted to provide individuals healthy alternatives to improve their lives.
Now at the age of 27, Jordann has transformed Base Culture, form its humble beginnings as a popular treat among her local community, to a nationally-recognized leader in the Paleo industry. Base Culture’s variety of products are made using minimal ingredients with no artificial ingredients or preservatives. Their assortment of breads, brownies, granola, almond butter and energy bites are 100% paleo certified, certified gluten-free, kosher certified, grain-free, dairy-free, soy-free and non-GMO verified. Everything is done in-house to ensure the quality of their products are held to the highest of standards. Each step of the process is done under one roof to give control over every aspect of production.
Women Fitness is #CelebratingWomen this International Women’s Day, with a new story of an inspirational woman going out every day. Lets check out how Jordann Windschauer, just out of college, created a revolution with the first-of-its-kind Paleo baked goods.
Women Fitness:
At the age of 22, you started a company that makes first-of-its-kind, Paleo-certified line of baked goods. What was the motivation behind starting your own company?
Jordann Windschauer:
I started Base Culture after doing a 30-day Paleo challenge at my CrossFit gym. After the challenge, my physical fatigue, mental stress, and sleepless nights disappeared, but I was still craving sweets. I couldn’t find any delicious and truly baked paleo goods that followed the Paleo lifestyle, so I decided to start making by own. From there the concept for Base Culture was born.

You also created your own packing facility, how were you able to do so?
Jordann Windschauer:
We spent nine months looking for a qualified; SQF, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO, Kosher Certified co-packer to make our products, because that is what we were told was the “right” business decision. However, through this process we found that what we were looking for did not exist. Additionally, there weren’t any co-packers in the nation that knew how to make our products the way we wanted them to be made. At that time, making baked goods out of seeds and nuts, sweetened with honey was completely foreign. As a result, it was our decision to build a facility where we could guarantee the quality and integrity of the products to our customers, as well as control on time deliveries to our retail partners.
I was able to undergo this enormous project by obtaining a bank loan. This provided the capital needed to purchase a facility and cover the costs of the renovation. This loan also enabled me to purchase equipment and ingredients needed to start producing products in mass quantities for retail chains nationwide.

Share with us your top 5 benefits of following a Paleo diet.
Jordann Windschauer:
I think of paleo as a lifestyle rather than diet. I believe if a person can adapt the paleo way of life into their daily routine, then it no longer holds the definition of a diet. With this mindset, the benefits of paleo eating varies from person to person based on what their body needs to thrive. Over the past five years, I have lived about a 90 percent paleo lifestyle. Through this transformation, I have found that my body and mind have benefited from deep sleep, consistent energy levels, a clear and controlled mindset, minimal inflammation, and more control over my hunger and cravings.
