Namita Nayyar:
After performing in various projects, like in TNT’s “Animal Kingdom,”” ID TV’s “Betrayed,” and AN AMERICAN FUNERAL, you were selected for breakout role on the newest season of NBC’s “This is Us.” How does it feel to have your hard work finally be recognized?
Bahara Golestani:
Absolutely amazing! It’s extremely rewarding to apply a strong work ethic and receive opportunities and recognition, but my focus is always about portraying characters that bring a story to life. It was an honor to portray such an inspiring character, Dr. Asmaan, especially given her circumstances coming from a Muslim (or Afghan) heritage. Since This is Us began, I’ve been a huge fan of the show and it was an incredible experience to join the phenomenal cast and work with Dan Fogelman and Ken Olin.

Namita Nayyar:
We hear you have a huge compassion for refugees of war and are very proud of your Afghan roots, how do you wish to work for their welfare? Share your experience of adapting to a completely new environment at a young age?
Bahara Golestani:
The details of my childhood are certainly painful given some of the things I witnessed and the stress my family went through during the war. I’m beyond thankful for the opportunity the United Nations provided for us. At the age of four I left Kabul and was a refugee in multiple countries before we were given asylum. Adapting and being challenged through these experiences shaped who I am today, and I am grateful for how organizations such as the UN change lives in such a significant way. I would love to be able to contribute to making a difference for children and families going through what my family did in any way I can; whether it’s getting involved in current initiatives or sharing my story to inspire others.
Namita Nayyar:
Being an actress and model one needs to stay fit and possess a healthy physique. What does your workout routine comprise of?
Bahara Golestani:
Fitness and health have always been a big part of my life, it’s important to take care of your body. Personally, I incorporate cardio, weightlifting, and strength training. I like to focus on one muscle at a time depending on my goals. My typical routine would consist of a morning hike to start my day. I love to hit the gym in the morning to knock it out and start my day right, cardio and weights, and if I have time I top it off with a sauna session.
Namita Nayyar:
Food constitutes an essential part of a healthy diet? Share your dietary pattern? Foods that you keep to the minimum.
Bahara Golestani:
My number one rule is be aware of what you put in your body, because your body is a temple! That being said, I try to stay away from anything processed. I educate myself on diets consistently! I always say, “be your own thinker and do your own research.” I try to eat as healthy as I can during the week, but I also believe that you have to live and enjoy yourself, so finding a healthy balance is definitely key!
Namita Nayyar:
You have led a refugee life before moving to America and creating a place for yourself here. How do you feel about the incredible journey?
Bahara Golestani:
When I moved to United States, that was the first time I felt like I was safe at home and that’s my honest truth. My journey was rough, unstable, very rocky, and full of surprises and shocking events. I always wanted to fit in and be “normal” like everyone else, yet never felt that I could be, no matter how hard I tried. I also have some very great memories growing up in Russia! There, my childhood was full of art, poetry, music and nature, which left me with a lot of fond memories that I still fully appreciate to this day. I’m comfortable in my skin now or at least I’m getting there and now I can truly appreciate everything for its good and bad. I believe that I would have not been the same person if I haven’t had those experiences that brought me where I am today.
Namita Nayyar:
Your 5 favorite activewear brands?
Bahara Golestani:
When choosing my favorite activewear brands I consider what makes me feel most comfortable and confident, whether I’m working out or running errands. I absolutely love Alo, their Grove location is my go-to. Some of my favorite classics are Nike and Adidas. When it comes to online shopping Fabletics is a must and I’m obsessed with the new line, Skims.
Namita Nayyar:
Upon graduating from Stella Adler, you persistently went out on auditions and worked as a professional fitness model, even successfully placing first in female bodybuilding competitions. Tell us about your fitness regime as a fitness model?
Bahara Golestani:
It was rigorous to say the least! Competing as a female bodybuilder taught me a tremendous amount of discipline, I was surrounded by some of the most hardworking individuals. From lifting weights an hour and a half a day followed by cardio sessions to hours of competition prep with my coach and meal prep from scratch, my schedule was filled 7 days a week.
Namita Nayyar:
What is your skincare and hair care routine like:
Bahara Golestani:
I take preventative care of my skin everyday by using SPF. I also never sleep with makeup on my face. I like to use eye cream toner serum and moisturizer as well, and I try to exfoliate a couple of times a week. As far as my hair goes, I like to just keep it healthy and hydrated. Selfcare is so important and can really help boost your confidence and make yourself feel good about yourself, which is why I love to make my own masks and scrubs at home for my skin and hair, it’s super simple! Using ingredients like coconut oil, lemons, essential oils, etc.
