Namita Nayyar:

You have been the former host of the sports talk radio on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore and have hosted your own Fantasy Football Show on MASN called “Fantasy Blitz,” and are now an update anchor and talk show host for ESPN New York. Walk us through your incredible journey so far.

Anita Marks:

I grew up playing almost every sport possible, but really excelled at football and fell in love with the game. I played flag football collegiality, and then women’s professional football from 1998 to 2002. I quarterbacked for the Miami Fury and the Florida Stingrays during those 5 years. I majored in Communications at the University of South Florida, and combining my major with my love of sport, and the fact that I played professional football opened the door for me in sports broadcasting. My sports talk radio career led to opportunities on TV, podcasts, and much more with ESPN. I’m thrilled with where my career has taken me.

Namita Nayyar:

Introduce us to a day in your life.

Anita Marks:

I try to spend at least an hour a day watching news stations to be in the know about our political environment, but I spend the majority of my day researching, reading, discussing, and debating NFL and sports topics on TV, radio, and podcasts.

I play in an average of twelve fantasy football leagues a season, therefore a lot of my time is spent managing those teams. I try to get to the gym three days a week during the NFL season, but then I’m able to get back to 5 days a week after the Super Bowl.

I live near Manhattan, and love meeting friends out for dinner a few nights a week.

And did I mention…never enough time for golf – more and more golf!

Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?

Anita Marks:

I ran the NY Marathon in 2014 and training for the marathon got me hooked on running.

I like to run at least 3 to 5 miles, five days a week. When I golf, I like to walk the course as much as possible.

I combine my runs with time in the gym and enjoy a high pace combined upper and lower body workout.

I try to keep my heart rate no lower than 145 while at the gym.

I enjoy cross fit on occasion, as well as boxing, just to mix it up.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Anita Marks:

I enjoy dinning out often, so its difficult to have a strict menu.

I still like to eat healthy, and order wisely. I stay away from breads and pastas as much as possible. I enjoy meats and fish along with vegetables. My downfall is wine, I can’t live without it.

I try and drink as much water as possible.

Namita Nayyar:

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your haircare and skincare routine.

Anita Marks:

I spend a lot of time and money on my skin. I grew up in the Florida sun and need to take care of the damage now.

Each month I have collagen facials, microderm abrasions, peels, derma plan treatments, laser treatments, and invest in a number of great topicals for day and evening use. For my hair, I take a prenatal vitamin, Biotin, B Complex, and Iron everyday.

There are so many fantastic women who have paved the way for a number of us in this business. Lesley Vissor, Linda Cohn, and Andrea Kramer, just to name a few. My motivation is to represent women in the sports broadcasting industry in a fashion that makes others proud. I’m always striving for greatness, never settling for average, and always wanting to set the bar, especially when it comes to covering the NFL, as well as hosting sports talk radio.

Namita Nayyar:

You have played women’s professional football from 1998 to 2002, playing the majority of that time for the Miami Fury & played in the WPFL championship your final season with the Florida Stingrays. How has your journey been being a professional football player?

Anita Marks:

The five years I played women’s professional football was five of the best of my life. To compete at that level was amazing. The lessons I learned in the heat of battle were priceless. The friendships that I will cherish for a lifetime, with the women I went to war with will forever be special.

I was truly blessed to be a part of those teams. That experience helped me to become the person I am today.
