Anicia Bragg unveils her workout, diet and fitness secrets in an exclusive interview with Namita Nayyar, President – Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were born in a small southern town but your love for fashion took you to many places. You’ve been a columnist for Viva Glam Magazine and a contributing writer for Jet Set Magazine. You’ve also featured as a TV host for HD Video Hollywood, interviewing celebrities on the red carpet. Tell us about this incredible journey and how it all began?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: My mother encouraged me to read and she would get me yearly subscriptions to all the fashion magazines. So I grew up as a teenager fantasizing about having the beautiful clothing and the life style that I would have in the future. I began modeling at eight years old in the southern region for local department stores and appeared in print ads, and then started doing TV commercials at age sixteen with a local TV station (WKPT-TV). Luckily, they liked my work and got me in numerous spots, more work and bigger opportunities. Along the way, a talent agent got me more work in the southeastern US. You would be surprised what you can manifest in a small town when you have big dreams.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are an Entrepreneur, TV Host, Author, Interior / Fashion Designer, and Model. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: I would say that I am a serial entrepreneur and non-apologetic capitalist. Being a Leo sun sign with a Leo rising, I was born extremely ambitious, so it’s in my DNA. My parents were hard working people that reared me to have a great work ethic and the importance of relationships, both personally and professionally. I think every job, every experience and every relationship has taken me one step closer to where I want to be on a personal basis and career wise. I am eager to learn and expand my skill set, yet remain humble and thankful to many mentors along the way. I am a multi-tasker and if I am not doing 5 things at once, I get really bored. I prefer working and staying busy all the time.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: Life is about a healthy lifestyle and running is my staple and whether on the street, in a park or on a treadmill, I need to get in a 2-5 miles a day. I sometime head to the beach for a 10 mile walk and jog combo. When I have time and I am in town for months at a time, I prefer to work out with a personal trainer and develop new routines.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: Yes, you are what you eat and for me diet and clean eating is a way of life. I pride myself on having a bikini ready body anytime, all year long. I haven’t had soda (not even diet since I was a child). Water, ice tea and coffee (black) are my drinks of choice and I don’t eat anything white (bread, pasta, rice) and no cheese or dairy. I also practice portion control by only eating 3-4 ounces of meat or chicken with veggies or salad at each meal. My typical breakfast would consist of 4 egg whites with veggies and if I am in a hurry, I do a quick protein shake with almond milk or eat a protein bar, which is one of my favorite snacks.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly, what do you do to keep your hair so shiny and stunning?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: Thank you for that compliment. There is one person that I must thank for my skin, her name is Deborah DePiano, the owner of DePiano Skin, here in West Hollywood. Debbie is amazing and the go-to skin care expert for myself and a who’s who list of celebrities. She has been taking care of me for over 15 years. I visit DePiano skin every two weeks and get an array of treatments, which Debbie recommends and is constantly mixing it up. I am obsessive and diligent about my at-home skin care regime.
My hair requires attention and I have a girlfriend that models, (Kourtney Reppert) and is Jessica Simpson look alike and stand in that hooked me up with her stylist, (Luna Arussi at Jadore Salon in Beverly Hills). Luna is a blonde hair care expert that has being doing my hair for the past 6 years. My base is done once a month to touch up the roots and highlights about every 2 years. YES…you did read that correctly! That’s why my hair is so healthy; I don’t over process it like most colorist. Most blondes get highlights too often, like every 3-6 months and that damages their hair. BTW, this is my real hair, no extensions. We keep it trimmed as needed and I do the new hair Botox condition treatments once a month (which eliminates split ends and frizzy dry hair) along with sealing the color with a clear gloss.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Introduce us to your new book, ‘Live With Purpose’?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: It’s an easy read for women on “how to” find both real love and security. I offer down to earth advice, while discussing the importance of image and self-esteem in a simple twelve step guide.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your current Top 3 Fashion Must-Haves?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: Black- Jimmy Choo Stilettos, that you can dress up or down, which are great for a business meeting or to feel sexy and sultry on a date. A tailored Black Blazer is always classic, feminine and looks great on all body types and a must own item…a little Black Dress, which is timeless and will take you anywhere.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share with us your Top 5 Must-Do Exercises to stay fit and healthy?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: Pushups, Squats, Deadlifts, Bicep, Triceps Curls.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have been the National Spokesmodel for the Eastman Kodak Company in New York. Share with us your experience working as a model?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: The spokesmodel contract with Kodak was my ticket out of Tennessee. My life and my destiny were changed forever. Moving to New York City and living with my agent, Charlie V. Ryan and his family opened many doors for my career. I studied acting at Herbert Berghof Studios and other job opportunities came from everywhere in print and television. This experience gave me confidence to live away from home and have many new experiences.
It was exciting meeting and working with numerous people from all walks of life and ethnicities. It taught me so much about the world and working in the entertainment industry. Most of all it taught me to always give it my best and not to be disappointed if I didn’t get a modeling gig, but to just keep pushing forward to my dreams. Years later, I am still giving it my best.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us more about your hit web series “Living Large with Anicia”. What or who has been your inspiration and motivation behind this endeavor of yours?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: Media companies like to do informative videos for their readers of their online magazines. My featured column in Viva Glam Magazine was doing well with a much appreciated large following, so they gave me the opportunity to do the web series. As the host, I write and co-produce each of the episode and cover top venues and interview special guests. It’s a revolving door of Top Models, Celebrities, Fashion Photographers, Stylist, and Taste Makers. At the time, Stacey Blanchet, VIVA GLAM’S Magazine Business Development Manager, became my personal business manager and co-producer of “Living Large with Anicia,”. Stacey was awesome and got us picked up in New York on Video City TV, a cable network which the showed aired on 52 channels.
Also, I adore Katarina Van Derham, the Founder and CEO of VIVA GLAM Magazine and extremely grateful that Katarina gave me a media platform to share my voice and work. It is said that I have a fearless voice and I want to use it to empower and inspire women and men alike. I offer sage advice that readers seem to crave and audiences demand. The hard work is rewarding, satisfying and a very cool platform to build my brand thru my column and web series for VIVA GLAM MAGAZINE. We have over 500,000 unique visitors each month with millions of views.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding designers, who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to the ladder of success in this field of fashion and interior designing?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: First, believe in yourself and all of your artistic ability. Never doubt yourself and follow your intuition on your creativity. Find a great school, enroll and get a degree. Otherwise, become an intern with well-respected designers while building relationships in the design industry. Most great accomplishment in life are done with teamwork, so surround yourself in a working environment that promotes a team concept with the same goals and objectives.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?
Ms. Anicia Bragg: I love it…very inspiring, informative and a phenomenal fitness tool for women that should be visited often. The website provides a broad source of information and a platform to share helpful advice while celebrating each other’s success. Keep up the great work #womenfitness
