Namita Nayyar:
If not a CrossFit Athlete, what would you be doing?
Andrea Montalvo:
If I was not working out and teaching people how to workout for a living I would be a firefighter or a marriage counselor…. or a motivational speaker! I have always dreamt of making a huge impact in the community… now I imagine later in life I’ll shift towards Christian Marriage Counseling. I believe that marriage is a gift from God, and the progression of faith and relationships have truly blessed me.
Namita Nayyar:
What is your workout routine on daily basis, list your 5 favourite fitness blasters?
Andrea Montalvo:
I lift very heavy! Each day I try to challenge myself in a big lift whether that’s a squat, a deadlift or a press. Sometimes I add olympic lifting into that like the snatch and clean and jerk which requires a lot of practice and skill. They never get boring (that’s the best part!) I then add in some body weight movements like pull-ups, sit-ups, handstand holds, and maybe even a cardio machine like a rower or bike.
Namita Nayyar:
To perform the best you need to fuel your body well too, what according to you should comprise a healthy breakfast meal? Also, what snacks do you like to munch on during or post training? Any workout supplement you stick to?
Andrea Montalvo:
I actually skip breakfast most days because I do intermittent fasting! It’s a fancy way to say that you don’t eat until 1 pm most days. I personally have really liked having a “feeding window” they call it between 12:00-8:00pm, and then fasting for 16 hours. Pre and post-workout I like to have fruit, carrots with hummus or a protein bar or shake. Building lean muscle is my constant goal, and what I strive for in my nutrition. I love Flyte Supplements and am totally aligned with their vision, if you haven’t tried it yet get their birthday cake protein. Yum.
Namita Nayyar:
Your biggest CrossFit inspiration?
Andrea Montalvo:
Annie Thorsdottir! She is a constant in the sport of CrossFit, she’s been around forever, and is so highly gifted. She has a humble but persistent approach.
