Aimee Pourroy: “Age is just a number” Exceptionally Talented Fitness Enthusiast

Aimee Pourroy is an accountant, trainer, and ambitious athlete aiming for a pro card. She grew up in the small town of Healdsburg, Sonoma County. She worked fulltime and attended classes at night, graduating from Sonoma State University with a B.S in Business, concentration in Accounting and a minor in Native American Studies.

She played sports and cheerleading her whole life and later left to pursue the dream of independence and lived in Huntington Beach while working at one of the largest accounting firms in the world.

Most of her life she has been in fitness from group sports to triathlons and marathons, until landing on the passion of bodybuilding and being memorized by the science of the body.

After becoming a mom, she had the ability to take on the dream of obligating her personal goals to the world of fitness. After years of endurance sports and discovering a weight room she participated in her first show in 2013.

Between 2014-2020 she competed in 11 shows placing in both top five and top three but in 2020 she won 1st place in qualifying for the nationals, where she was placed fourth.

In between shows she has done multiple photo shoots, competed in Starks ‘Stark-naked fitness contest’ and raised over 10K for California Highway Patrol Widows and Orphans Foundation. She documents her journey of being a fit mom on her IG ‘Two Girls and a Gym’ with her best friend showing that you can be a good example to your kids and other moms who think it’s impossible.

She is a mom to a beautiful daughter who is a competitive ice skater, volleyball player and loves to be active which has her starting day at 4 a.m. to hit the ice rink, school, and sports while she works remotely as an accountant, help people with their physical training, prep for nationals, get her training in and keep up her home, ending her day at 10 p.m. just to start it all over again, which she wouldn’t change for anything!

She has an amazing coach @shaneHeugly whom has taught her that anything is possible if you work hard and stay focused (controlling what your body does is nothing like achieving education or financial goals). She has been preparing for this and more than ready to achieve the fitness goal she has been striving for, on which she REFUSES to give up on. She hopes to not only show her daughter it’s possible to do anything you work hard for, but also moms everywhere that it is ok to act on your personal goals while being a parent and most importantly over the age of 45!

Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with an exceptionally talented Aimee Pourroy, a Fitness Enthusiast, and here she talks about her workout, diet, beauty secrets, and success story.

Namita Nayyar:

You grew up in the small town of Healdsburg, Sonoma County. You worked full-time and attended classes at night, graduating from Sonoma State University with a B.S in Business. You did overcome all the hardships and adversity and went on to become one of the successful bodybuilding stars to stand 1st in the qualifying round and 4th at the Nationals in 2020. This later propelled your career to the height where you have been at the top of the world of fitness and bodybuilding competitors. Tell us more about your professional journey of exceptionally hard work, tenacity, and endurance?

Aimee Pourroy:

I’ve never been one to give up, I was raised that hard work pays off because no one is going to do it for you. I’ve had to work hard for everything I’ve ever wanted in life, education, job, etc. I set goals, within time I have always achieved them. Bodybuilding is another story;it’s been a goal I have been striving for, for years. So far I’ve learned more about myself, my strengths, and my weakness and just how mentally strong I actually am.

Namita Nayyar:

After becoming a mom, you had the ability to take on the dream of obligating your personal goals to the world of fitness. You participated in the first fitness show in 2013. Between 2014-2020 you competed in 11 shows placing in either the top 5 or top 3 and but in 2020 you won 1st place and qualified for nationals, where you were placed 4th. Tell us about this spectacular achievement of yours?

Aimee Pourroy:

The year of COVID, I had nothing else to do besides focus on my training (and entertain my daughter) and thankfully a new coach brought me to Utah where shows where happening. Winning my category was the best feeling, gave me confidence and hope for the future. He immediately told me we were going to nationals.

The first time someone had faith in me and my ability to do this. At nationals It was the most amazing experience being there amongst girls across America who think the same way I did in COVID, train hard, we have the time and zero excuses! There’s such a respect backstage with everyone, along with the commonality of what it took to get to that point. Walking away with 4th was a huge achievement and fuelled my passion to continue and go back aiming for that first place Pro card.

Namita Nayyar:

You are the leading fitness model, accountant, trainer, and athlete aiming for a pro card, bodybuilder, and mother. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Aimee Pourroy:

I’m an organized freak! I have calendars; I stick to a routine regardless. Sometimes kid activities happen and I roll with it, up earlier, to bed later, I know I have the support at home to make sure I get everything done. I’ve also learned to say no. I would try to do too much in a day and came to realize I need to stick to what’s important, not pleasing everyone else.

Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?

Aimee Pourroy:

Three days a week of leg workouts. I changed this in the last year and it has made a world of difference in my physique. I squat and deadlift regularly, full kinetic-chain exercises, lots of posterior movements. I can tell you older don’t matter and being female lifting heavy weights is the best thing you can do.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you train your abs? One secret to your toned body.

Aimee Pourroy:

I’m a true believer abs are made in the kitchen, although I do abs to failure every day. I mix up the movements, although main focus in the transverse abdominals and rectus abdominals and keep away from oblique’s as my goal is to make my waist look smaller not thicker.

Namita Nayyar:

Do you take a special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Aimee Pourroy:

In contest prep I’m extremely strict, there is no cheating. I see food as fuel. I find it easier to do when results happen; the science behind the diet mesmerizes me. I can’t get enough of it and to watch myself go through it is exciting. In the off season I stick to healthy fresh foods as well as weekly indulge. I’ve never been one to eat out much besides hunting down the best burger I can find.

Namita Nayyar:

Five foods you absolutely love and five you keep to a minimum.

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Share with us your hair care and skincare routine.

Aimee Pourroy:

My skin and hair is a product of my food intake and fitness routine in addition to the amount of water I drink and sweat daily. Plus I have a best friend that is a hair stylist!

I’m big on anti-aging. I take collagen daily, I have my blood tested regularly since turning 40, It keeps all my levels (being vitamins or hormones) in check giving me the ability to take care of things if their off before they get out of hand.

I love Vit C serums for my face and @tk_beaute_ takes care of my regular facials. Lately I’ve been a fan of Ordinary Skincare products.

You competed in Starks ‘Stark-naked fitness contest’ and raised over 10K for California Highway Patrol Widows and Orphans Foundation tell us how you have been able to achieve and quench your thirst of giving back to society through this endeavor of yours?

Aimee Pourroy:

My brothers are both Highway Patrols. They turned me onto CHP Widows and Orphans. For years I did triathlons and raised money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Little did I know my own brother would end up with Lymphoma, which made fundraising that much more important to me.

Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding bodybuilding girls, who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to the ladder of success in the field of female bodybuilding?

Aimee Pourroy:

ANYTHING is possible! I’m a small town girl who had her own body image issues. It took me 40 years to be comfortable in my own skin and I’m proud of who I am and what I’ve become. The key is NEVER give up, consistency had taught me what’s really possible…be persistent!

Namita Nayyar:

You have done bold photo shoots on your Instagram handle @twogirlsandagym. How you are so body confident and advice to your compatriots?

Aimee Pourroy:

Everyone has different bodies; I don’t compare myself to anyone except my own progress. If you work hard show it off, be proud, there is always someone you inspire watching you, even if it’s your own kids.

Namita Nayyar:

Your idea of a perfect date?

Aimee Pourroy:

Hanging out at home in front of the fire with a glass of Chevel Blanc in my hand, keep it simple.

Namita Nayyar:

You are a mother to a beautiful daughter who is a competitive ice skater, volleyball player and that makes you start the day at 4 a.m. to hit the ice, school, and sports while you work remotely as an accountant, help people with their physical training, preparation for nationals, get your training in and keep up a home, ending your day at 10 p.m. Tell how you are able to strike work and life balance?

Aimee Pourroy:

I’m lucky enough to have a daughter who likes mornings. Kids thrive off routine and schedules; once we have the schedule set I slip in my training, work, etc. It’s a challenge when the schedule changes, but we work it out. I’ve involved my daughter in my workouts, she likes a good challenge herself and we get to spend time together while she learns health and fitness without knowing it. I’ve also learned to live being tired like most moms when it gets crazy.

Namita Nayyar:

Tell us more about your training for the nationals under the talented and amazing coach @shaneHeugly?

Aimee Pourroy:

I think everyone can benefit from a coach; they keep you accountable and want to help you. Shane is a man of few words, unless you communicate what’s going on. He treats you like a champion; therefore you want to act like one. He never once let me believe COVID was going to get in the way, or that I’m not worthy enough. Do the work, listen to your coach and you will see results. His wife steps in to help with stage, suits, makeup, posing etc. They truly are a dream team who treats their clients with the upmost respect. I think I made a great choice joining his team to get to the pro status.

Namita Nayyar:

What do you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and the message for its visitors?

Aimee Pourroy:

Womenfitness.net is real; it’s not a bunch of ‘fluff’. It has great advice that is doable for anyone. It’s a great example and representation of health, fitness and successful women. I thoroughly enjoy reading it.

Namita Nayyar:

Today social media plays a vital role in putting your message across to your followers and fans. What is your message for your followers on Instagram handle @twogirlsandagym?

Aimee Pourroy:

Moms can be healthy and fit with kids! Anything is possible and your kids are watching what you do. Make it fun, workout with your bestie, document your progress and watch yourself grow! It’s worth it and you will feel amazing doing it.
