Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Body Shaming has become a very common issue on social media nowadays and you might also be familiar with the “Me Too” Movement in the Modeling Industry. What is your take on it and would be your 5 best tips for a model who face such pressure?
Ms. Abigail Ratchford:
I’ve always dealt with pressure from the beginning because my body is not a normal size: two body type for a model, so I’ve always been called fat or thicker told I needed to lose weight. The funny thing is about a year ago, I was dealing with a lot of stress personally and ended up losing weight – the ironic thing was I got a lot of backlash for that and everybody was like “Why did you lose weight?!!!” So that’s when I realized… no matter if I’m skinny or too “thick” at the end of the day, you just can’t make everybody happy. As long as I’m happy with myself that’s all that matters.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have a massive Instagram presence @abigailratchford with over 8.3 million followers and are regarded as “The Queen of Instagram.” How does it feel to be a role model & an inspiration in influencing the lives of so many girls and women through your presence?
Ms. Abigail Ratchford:
It’s definitely a lot of pressure to have that many eyes on me and I know that I have to watch certain things I do and say, but at the same time I think that a lot of my likability and a lot of the reason why my fans and my followers have followed my journey for so long is because they see me as relatable. They see me as this small town girl from Pennsylvania who moved to Hollywood to make it big. I’m nowhere near the level of fame and success I hope to be one day, but I’ll get there. If I gave up every time someone said I was too fat, too ugly, not good enough, etc., I’d still be back in Pennsylvania working a dead end job. I try to push people of all ages to believe in themselves, work hard, and don’t take no for an answer.
