Josie Gibson mentors best friend to weight lossJosie Diane Shirley Gibson is a British media personality, and former financial sales rep from Bristol. She rose to prominence after winning Big Brother 2010, and entered Ultimate Big Brother the same year. She was a regular guest host on Channel 5 magazine series OK! TV.

Gibson was the first contestant to be selected by Big Brother to be a housemate on Day 1 of the final Channel 4 series of Big Brother. Throughout her stay she received only five nominations for eviction and never once faced the public vote. She entered into a romantic relationship with fellow housemate John James Parton and upon leaving Big Brother the pair confirmed their boyfriend/girlfriend status. On Day 66 of Big Brother 11, Josie was selected by the other housemates to receive a ticket to the final. On Day 77 of Big Brother 2010, she was announced as the winner with 77.5% of the public vote which is the highest there has ever been out of any other Big Brother series.

After an interview with Davina McCall, she confirmed she was going to take part in Ultimate Big Brother then re-entered the Big Brother house 18 minutes later. On Day 3 of Ultimate Big Brother, Gibson walked out of the house while other housemates were nominating. It was confirmed by Big Brother to the Ultimate housemates that she was not returning to the Ultimate Big Brother house. She was reunited with Parton seconds after breaking out as he was at the Big Brother compound recording a message for her. Her fellow Ultimate housemates shared their sadness after her exit with Ulrika Jonsson crying and eventual winner Brian Dowling predicting that she would have won if she had stayed.

In July 2012, Gibson did a photoshoot in Closer magazine to show off her weight loss after pictures of her surfaced in May 2012 in Ibiza where she was unhappy with her weight.
Since leaving the Big Brother house she has become one of the most successful contestants ever with many magazine deals, and TV appearances on shows such as: Celebrity Wedding Planner, Celebrity Impossible, Gino & Mel – Lets do Lunch, The Wright Stuff, Silent Library, Wagons Den, Celebrity Juice, Live From Studio Five, The Vanessa Show, OK! TV, Big Brother’s Bit On the Side, Live With.., and Loose Women, as well as having her own reality shows John James and Josie: What happened Next and There’s Something About Josie.

In January 2013, Josie became the official ‘new face’ of Pearlys, a UK nation-wide cosmetic teeth whitening company associated with TV shows like The X-Factor, Britain’s Biggest Losers, Gok Wan’s Style Secrets and TOWIE (The Only Way is Essex). She released a workout DVD called Josie Gibson: 30 Second Slim in January 2013.

When a close friend loses weight and looks amazing you can’t wait to ask what they’re eating and how they’re exercising. That’s what happened to Big Brother star Josie Gibson, who dropped six stone and went from a size 20 and 16 stone to a toned size 10. Her diet and fitness plan has proved so effective that one of her friends – Jeanette Anjorin – has already lost a whopping six stone in five months.

Josie explained to Closer magazine: ‘My weight loss has motivated my friends and has shown them they don’t have to be unhappy with how they look. I’ve taught them not to bother with fad diets. ‘It’s all about keeping your body full with natural, unprocessed food. ‘And it’s not just about losing weight – it’s about feeling good about yourself too. You get to an age where you don’t want to feel bad about yourself anymore.’

And as 5ft 11 Josie recently gained a few pounds on an all-inclusive holiday in Tenerife, taking her to 10ft 9lbs, she says she’ll be doing the plan with her friends to get ready for summer. ‘I can’t wait to be back in the gym,’ she says. ‘When I was away, I was drinking every night and eating everything in sight – red wine, all-you-can-eat buffet, ice creams… But it’s important to have a treat every now and them, especially on holiday. ‘My weight still yo-yos, but this time I know how to lose it so I’m not worried about getting back in shape – and I’ve got my girls to do it with.’

Josie’s friends will be following the same high-protein, low-carb diet she lost weight with – as well as doing lots of interval training, known to burn fat fast. She explains: ‘People get bored of exercise quickly so we’ll be doing lots of short, snappy circuits involving lunges, press-ups, squats, burpees and crunches so we don’t realise we’re working out as hard as we are. ‘I’m going to take them all food shopping, tell them which aisles to avoid, and check everything they put in the trolley. ‘I’ve told them they need to try to make everything from scratch, so they need to be organised, but it can be done!

‘It doesn’t work for everyone, but I find that weighing myself every morning puts me in the right frame of mind. It’s all part of changing your lifestyle and feeling more positive.’

With her friends dieting and exercising together to support each other, Josie is confident her they will be just as successful as her.
