-
Ombré: L'Oreal's new
Feria Wild Ombré kit is the latest hair color trend. According to every
colorist on the planet — ombré is one of the most flattering things you can
do for your hair lightening. Its so popular for its natural beach
look, as it lightens up your hair and gives it a sun-kissed glow. According
to Tracey
Cunningham, Redken creative consultant for color and co-owner of Beverly
Hills salon, Mèche the ombré resurgence has to do with the recent
spate of brunette stars taking the dip-dye plunge. It's no longer about a
drastic, two-toned look, but more about a natural, subtle gradation.
-
Aztec Red:
Fiery red is currently Mexico's favorite. Red-haired
models have never been so much in demand! Women with cool or pinkish skin
pull it off best. Colorist Sarah Gold, the guru behind Lindsay Lohan's
formerly flame-colored hair, concurs: "Remember, red hair is like a sequined
dress — it walks into the room before you do." Red hair color oxidizes
faster than any other, So, if you're going to spend a lot of time outdoors,
use a styling product that contains UV filters — or throw a hat or scarf
over your strands.
-
Platinum: Dark
blonde is the best natural colour if you want to colour your hair platinum
blonde. It has continued to remain popular in 2013. Keeping hair
this
blonde calls for high maintenance and won't suit all skin
tones. Remember, women with cool skin (pink or peachy complexion) tones
generally look better in platinum colors than women with warm skin tones.
-
Dip-dyes: Celebrities
like Jessie J and Katy Perry have been seem sporting dip dyed hair this year
and it's a look you can achieve easily at home with any of Directions hair
dye. If you want to dip dye your hair, it couldn't be easier, just follow
our step by step dip dye hair guide. Colourfully dyed hair ends are a
playful trend with no end in sight. If you are looking for really vibrant
colours, bleach your hair first. If you have very light hair or you only
want a subtle tint then skip this step. Next, put an elastic band or hair
band on your hair a few centimetres above where you want the dip dye colour
to start and begin applying the bleach with a tint brush. If you fan your
hair out and do a small strand at a time you'll get more even coverage, also
try and feather where the bleach stops a little if you don't want a straight
line. Wash out the bleach with clean water and a little mild shampoo,
but don't condition your hair as this can stop the dye sticking properly.
Once your hair is dry you can add the dye. Again, put an elastic band or
hair band on your hair Using a tint brush, apply the dye everywhere that the
bleach has lightened your hair. It's best to go a little bit over the line
and get some dye on the unbleached hair too to make sure the colour blends
in. Try turquois or pink.
-
Bronde: A
perfect shade between blonde and brunette which was first made popular back
in 2007 by supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The key to a perfect shade of bronde
is to lighten hair by painting select layers on top of the hair with 2
different volumes of color lifting creams. Such coloring gives darker hair
depth and dimension without looking like you're trying to be the blonde
you're not. Just make sure you don't have too much of a contrast between the
roots and the highlighted ends or you'll end up looking as if you fried your
hair via the bottle and are trying to grow it out.
-
Balayage: Its a French colouring technique that was developed in the
1970s. It’s a free-hand technique where the colour is applied by hand rather
than using the traditional foiling or cap highlighting techniques. Balayage
can be used in even the shortest pixie crop however the best results is in
hair below the shoulders. The go-to for modern, chic hair, balayage creates
depth and dimension, and leaves you with a sun-kissed finish. Lots of
celebrities have their balayage finished with copper or red glosses and this
is now being called the new ombre look. Balayage is popular among celebs
like Gisele Bunchen and Sarah Jessica Parker because of its casual, rather
bohemian style: the look is sun-kissed, outdoorsy and very natural-looking.
One of the greatest things about balayage as a colouring technique is its
versatility. Because the colour is being painted on, you get to choose
exactly which sections you want to be lightened, and by how many shades.
Whether you want a barely noticeable colour shift or a dramatic change,
balayage is likely to work in your favour.
-
Bright hues: including streaks, washes of pastels, Kool-Aid hair
color and more. Be sure to use the unsweetened version of Kool-Aid, to avoid
creating sticky hair. Moreover, don't use the artificially sweetened kind,
as the chemicals might irritate your eyes.
Tip: The
rule of thumb when choosing a new color, is to look at your own color in the
natural daylight, and determine what you want to add or remove. A
safer way to change your own natural color is to have highlights and lowlights
added, so the actual product never touches the scalp.
