There is completely no doubt that false eyelashes make your eyelashes look much fuller. Besides, fuller lashes are just what you may need for a quick spruce-up.
Fake eyelashes come in many different styles & densities and applying them is pretty easy- once you learn it.
Basically, there are two types of false eyelashes:
- Full lashes, which add density to the entire lash line
- Individual lashes, which can be used to fill in sparse areas or dramatically open up the eye area.
When applying false eyelashes, a better result is achieved when the adhesive is allowed to become “tacky” prior to contact with the skin (having been applied to the false eyelash direct). |
How to apply false eyelashes
Full lashes are easier to apply and don’t look as natural, but individual lashes require a steadier hand and a bit more practice. Whichever style you choose, follow these tips to make your lashes look as natural as possible:
False eyelashes may be applied to either cleansed or “made-up” eyes.
- Prepare the Lash Bands- Check the width of the lash bands. To shorten them, trim them to the width of your lash line using a pair of scissors and snipping the outer edges — where the lashes are the longest. (You can cut the bands in half and apply them just to you outer, top lids if you don’t need full coverage.) Flex your lash bands so they will conform to your eyelids.Prepare Your Eyes-False eyelashes should be applied after foundation and eyebrows. Draw a steady line right above your lash line with a brown or black eyeliner pencil. Blend it in to create a smoky effect. This will help to conceal the lashband.
- If you want, you can apply a thin coat of mascara to your natural eyelashes before you put on your fake lashes, but you need to let it dry before you continue. It can be messy.
- Applying your Eyelashes- Dab on a thin line of the adhesive to the lash band with a toothpick. Wait a few seconds to allow the glue to become tacky. Press on the lash bands from the inner to the outer corners of your eyes, placing them as close to your own natural lash line as possible. Hold them firmly in place, until they’re set. Try to keep it neat, but don’t worry if you have a little extra glue showing. It will dry clear. Make sure that the lashes match by starting at the outer corner.
While applying false eyelashes, press the inside edge of the eyelash to the edge of your own eyelid and firm from the inside outwards with gentle pressure from your fingertip. |
- Applying individual lashes-With individual lashes, apply them to the outside corners of the eye and work your way toward your nose. For the most natural look, all you need is a few individual lashes per eye.
- Final look- After you’ve applied the false lashes, curl them along with your real lashes. To blend false and natural lashes, apply a deep liquid liner over both. Mascara is not required over false eyelashes, but may be worn on your lower lashes to further highlight your eye.
Removing False Eyelashes
Apply some eye make-up remover to your eyes and let it soak in for several seconds to soften up the adhesive. Take a corner of the lash band and gently pull off the lashes.
Cleaning and Storing
To wash them, use warm, soapy water to remove any mascara and dirt. Take a pair of tweezers and carefully pull off any additional glue. A toothbrush or moustache brush works great for cleaning between the lashes. Store them on the platform in the original container to keep their shape. You can reuse your false eye lashes provided you keep them clean.
It’s best to reserve this look for special occasions; long-term use can lead to eye irritation from the glue, and even infections. Choose only very fine lashes, not too long, and they should look absolutely natural.
